Dosage and Administration
- The initial dose is Exelon Patch 5, one patch once daily. If well tolerated and treatment remains stable for at least 4 weeks, your physician may increase the dose to Exelon Patch 10 , one patch once daily.
How to apply the patch?
- Apply to clean, dry, hairless, intact skin. It is recommended to apply to the back (upper or lower). If this is not practical, the upper arm or chest may be used instead. Press down firmly for at least 30 seconds to make sure the edges stick securely.
- Do not apply the patch to red, irritated, or broken skin, nor to areas where creams, lotions, or powders have recently been applied.
- Change the application site daily to minimize skin irritation, and always remove the old patch before applying a new one. You may apply it to the same general area, but allow at least 14 days between applications on the exact same spot.
Special Instructions
- The patch can remain on during bathing and hot weather. However, you should avoid prolonged exposure to external heat sources (such as excessive sunlight, saunas, or sunbathing), as this may increase drug release.
- If you forget to apply a patch, apply a new one immediately. Never apply two patches to make up for a forgotten one. If you have missed Exelon Patch treatment for more than 3 days, consult your physician before restarting.
- Do not use if the pouch or patch is damaged, cut, or altered.
- Wash your hands with soap and water after applying or removing the patch. If your eyes become red, irritated, or uncomfortable after touching them with a hand that has contacted the patch, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Seek medical attention promptly if symptoms do not improve.
Possible Side Effects
- Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, weight loss, dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, and application site itching.
- If side effects are severe or persistent, consult your physician or pharmacist for evaluation.
Storage
- Keep the patch in its original sealed pouch. Store below 30°C.
- To dispose of the used patch, fold it in half with the adhesive side inwards and place it back into the original pouch. Discard it carefully to keep it out of reach of children and pets.
