Being a university hospital, CMUH carries a mission of education. Most of the hospital's senior staff physicians are on the China Medical University faculty accredited by the Ministry of Education. The hospital provides medical students and residents opportunities for hands-on trainings. Most of the specialty and sub-specialty training programs have been accredited by respective speciality board.

  The hospital also provides teaching programs for allied medical professionals including pharmacology, nursing, medical technology, nutrition and hospital administration. Apart from active teaching programs, the hospital also has a multifaceted cooperative relationship with other university hospitals and healthcare institutions.

    For the rapid transfer of knowledge from the research bench to the patient beside, a physician-scientist combined Medical Research Department was created in 1996. Every year, the hospital disperses certain funds for research in the fields of clinical, basic and animal studies. The hospital continuously recruits specialists with Ph.D. degree from different fields of basic sciences to participate and assist in research.

    Also noted is the publication of Mid-Taiwan Journal of Medicine. The clinicians, teachers and researcher from hospitals in central Taiwan submit their articles and comments to this peer-reviewed medical journal. The academic standard of this journal elevates day by day and receives more and more affirmation.

    Beneath magnificently prospective leadership of President Chang-Hai Tsai M.D., Ph.D, CMUH invited Academician Chie-Mien Hung, Academia Sinica , being responsible to organize the newest academic research center, Center for Molecular Medicine of CMUH, in June 2006. The institute combines study of fundamental biotechnology and research of clinical medicine that can connect international medical research , can strengthen competitive strength of medical research , and will promote the research level of this country to the world standard.
